About the German Base Yavin
The year 2016 was a mixed year for the German Base Yavin.
At the start of the year we weren’t able to find a Base Membership Officer (BMO) and didn’t have a Webmaster either; therefore, these duties were taken over by the Executive Officer (XO) and Commanding Officer (CO). In April we found a BMO who also took over responsibility for our webpage. We also increased the GBY social media presence by joining Instagram, Twitter and YouTube. . By providing verified followers and viewers, The Marketing Heaven made our social media profiles visible and recognizable on the web. With the new elections we now have members filling in all offices, including two BMOs and a Charity Officer. Our membership numbers greatly increased during the last two years and we currently have 87 members at our base. Thanks to all our members!

Dortmund Con
At the DoCon, a charity event of the Star Wars Fans Dortmund taking place from 13.08.- 14.08.2016, we participated with our information booth and a fun Star Wars tin game for kids to collect money for the social organization Kinderferienparty Dortmund (holiday activities for kids of poor families).
With an entry fee of 2€, kids could take two throws on tins with pictures of Star Wars characters on them. The goal was knocking over all tins to show you are “strong with the force”, and to win a main price. For little padawans who didn’t quite manage doing that yet, a consolation price was offered. Thus no one was a looser. As a result, we could donate 50€ for the good cause on Sunday the 14.08.

Science Fiction Meets Reality 24.09.- 25.09.2016
For about five to six years now, we have been taking part at the Science Fiction Meets Reality Con held at the museum of technology in Speyer. Since three years with our booth. This year, we offered a kids “Star Wars Dice Game” at our booth to collect money for a good cause. With an entry fee of 2€ kids could get two goes in rolling a big foam dice to get a “2, 3, 11 or 12” to be strong in the force and earn a main price. For all other numbers they received a consolation price, so that no kid left empty handed. On the second day of this event we thus were able to donate of 450€ to the “Deutsche Leukämie-Forschungshilfe – Aktion für krebskranke Kinder -Ortsverband Mannheim e. V.”, an organization supporting leukemia research in children.
