Hemby Children’s Hospital

Original report by: Luis A. Diaz Jr., Blue Ridge Base

On October 13, 2012, members of Blue Ridge Base and the 501st Legion’s Carolina Garrison gathered together for their annual October troop at Presbyterian Hospital’s Hemby Children’s Hospital.

Gathering in the children’s theater to change, much merriment could be heard including our own Princess Leia asking “Are my buns too big?”. How does one truly answer that.

Members brought trading cards, Halloween treat bags and lots of Star Wars goodies to give to the children. In all, we were able to visit with 17 children. One child named every costume that entered the room. Another child was a bit scared of the troopers and “Bigfoot” but she thought the princess was pretty cool. A father chased us down to get the “formal” name for a sand person. The staff asked for pictures.

The one unfortunate happening involved a Biker Scout who couldn’t control his ATV and hit the Wookiee!

After the troop everyone gathered at The Philosopher’s Stone Tavern for lunch.
