Stand Up 2 Cancer w/ the Mets
Original report by: burnoracle, Echo Base
The Echo Base and the Empire City Garrison came together to support the New York Mets and Stand Up 2 Cancer on an official “Star Wars Day”. A small contingent arrived early to film sizzle reels with Mr. Met and one of the pitchers. Our numbers soon grew right before game time. The Mets hosted a costume contest with the grand prize winner receiving tickets to Celebration VI in Orlando. I’m happy to report it was a tiny rebel pilot that won the contest – the force was strong with him! Many fans turned out in Star Wars shirts. We assisted the Mets with Star Wars Trivia, Kiss cam and we were even on the field during the 7th inning stretch singing “Take Me Out To The Ballgame” and throwing shirts to the fans.
It should be noted that Mets pitcher RA Dickey is a huge Star Wars fan, he came out to greet us personally, and had questions for us, as he is building his own Darth Vader Costume.
It was a hot muggy night, but a good time was had by everyone attending.
In attendance from Echo Base:
– Thomas Peterson (Jedi Knight)
– Dan King (Admiral Ackbar)
– Daniel Reiser (Jedi Knight)
– Sharon Bell Reiser (Jedi Knight)
– Kristen Sirota (Princess Leia)
– Ruby Rinsko (Chewbacca)
– Danielle Bonardi (Jedi Knight)
– Ryan Miorelli (ROTJ Luke Skywaler)
We were accompanied by plenty of Stormtroopers, Scouttroopers, Tusken Raiders, Darth Vader and Boba Fett thanks to the Empire City Garrison.
